Company Description

ENERTRAG South Africa is a clean energy developer and a subsidiary of ENERTRAG SE, an independent energy company operating in Germany, France, Ghana, Vietnam, and Uruguay, expanding to other regions.

ENERTRAG generates electricity, hydrogen, and heat exclusively from renewable sources and supplies renewable energy to end-customers from residential, commercial to heavy industry.

Primary Task(s)

  • Project Development
    • Accountable for Project Development of wind, solar, battery energy storage system, and Power to X projects in South Africa.

    • Drive the development process from pre-feasibility (S0) to feasibility and procurement stages to a fully permitted project (S5).

    • Manage the EIA process for renewable energy projects under NEMA, as amended.

    • Advance grid connection possibilities with national, municipal, and private system/grid operators.

    • Guarantee all development permits and authorisations to reach Commercialisation (G5 / S4).

    • Participate in bid preparation and coordinate responses to private and public procurement processes.

    • Drive the handover process to the Project Execution team.

  • Project Management
    • Manage with business development, site and project acquisition.

    • Assist with site identification and project acquisition.

    • Conclude the filing of signed agreements where required.

    • Use secondary information and develop primary research to identify best development opportunities.

    • liaise with the Land Manager and land acquisition consultants to secure sites.

  • Due Diligence
    • Manage collection of data/information for due diligence.

    • File necessary documentation for due diligence.

    • Develop shared repository for participants in the due diligence exercise.

    • Analyse data to inform operational, financing and investment decisions.

    • Formulate and present recommendations.

  • Resource Assessment
    • Gather data for site resource evaluation.

    • Provide site-specific information to specialists performing evaluation.

    • Maintain documentation for easy access.

    • Drive procurement if an external specialist is appointed.

    • Collaborate with internal legal for contract execution and management.

  • People Management
    • Manage Project Development Interns and Junior Project Developers.

    • Provide leadership, mentorship, and day-to-day guidance.

    • Support onboarding and development of new team members; ensure alignment with processes, tools, and standards.

    • Delegate work while maintaining accountability for quality and timelines.

    • Foster a collaborative, high-performance team culture and support capacity planning and resource discussions.

    • Provide performance feedback and input into development plans where applicable.

Qualifications

  • Field of Study: Qualifications in Environmental, Geography, Urban/Town planning, Finance or commerce/business.

  • Type of Training: Bachelor or Postgraduate degree in the relevant field.

  • Relevant Professional Experience: 6+ years relevant experience.

  • Additional qualifications/certificates: Postgraduate qualification preferred.

  • Experience: Extensive knowledge of project finance; understanding of technical grid connection requirements; knowledge of project development and management; Corporate Social Investment.

  • IT Knowledge: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); working knowledge of GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS); some knowledge of project management software (e.g., MS Project); experience with platforms like Wasp, WindPro, Windfarm, Open Winds or similar is advantageous.

Additional Information

  • Personal Competencies: Communicative, objective and professional, team-oriented, capable of negotiation, leadership, and conflict/crisis management.

  • Foreign Language Skills: Business fluent in English; another South African official language and German are a plus.
